My Apologies

I don't think many people are looking at this right now, but I wanted to apologize for the lack of activity. There's been a lot of things going on lately and it's been eating up most of my time. The prologue is slowly taking shape. I'm using a very cool program called Ywriter to help me organize my thoughts and put the story together. Check it out if you're interested in that sort of thing. It took a while to learn how to do everything, but lately I've been mostly hung up on not having the physical layout of the land.

So I've been using Fractal Terrains Pro to help me design the map for Aldeya and Ur since I am a terrible artist. I think they've turned out rather well though. The lines are obviously longitude and latitude. The first few are spherical views rotated to the east 60 degrees each time. Then there is the North and South poles and a full world view. The strange white lines are rivers if you're wondering.

Will add some more views zoomed into different regions and will also be adding details like cities and territory lines and what not. At least here you can see the general view. I am also working on Ur and hopefully will have that up soon too.

You can look at the maps by clicking on the Maps Link on the sidebar or by this link: Maps . Sorry about the white lines too. I will trim those off later and re-upload them. Anyway, please let me know what you think. I haven't forgotten all of this, it will just take time...

Still working...

Ok, so I'm still working on the background stuff right now. It's taking longer than I thought because I'm trying to come up with histories and everything that make some sense with the story. At first I had everything together on one page, and, after looking at what a mess it was, I decided to split it into two separate pages. Now there is an Aldeya and an Ur page that will contain descriptions of places, peoples, governments, events, timelines, etc. They are both works in progress and not so pretty right now. I figure that as I begin writing I can edit those a bit and make them a little more pretty. As it stands right now my goal is to get the Aldeya stuff up first because that's where we're starting, but if you want to know something specific about anything, just let me know and I'll get it updated sooner. My plan is to post or update something on here every night.

I also realized that the other pages don't have any section for comments or anything, so feel free to comment about them in these posts. Also, at the bottom of the page is a place to subscribe to the blog by email. If someone wants to do that and let me know for what it sends you emails about I'd appreciate it. Not sure if it just sends one out every time I post an actual blog, or when I update a page as well. So let me know, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Update: This is a test to see if when I update a post, it sends out another notification. Also, I have finished the background for the races of Aldeya. I think at this point I can at least write out the prologue I had in mind and continue updating background stuff as I go.

The Process

Hello everybody. Welcome to my new project blog.

So here's the idea behind this blog. I have lots of ideas for books and short stories and things like that, but I'm not very good at the follow through. At best I may pull up a word document and jot some ideas down, or write something in my thought book (Does anyone else have one?), but that's about as far as I go. This blog is a way to motivate me to write more or less regularly. The focus will be on a single story idea I have, but occasionally I might branch out and do something smaller that hits me.

What I'd like to do is have some feedback and comments on each update to the story. Edits and ideas and everything else that readers care to share. The idea is to have the readers build the story with me and help me explore the story as it develops. Along with each story update, I'll post a second time with the details of the thought process I went through in the writing and story development. My hope with that is to get feedback on how other people go into their creative endeavors and learn some things to help me become a better writer.

Along with the main story, the blog has several pages you can navigate to on the side that will be updated regularly with information about characters, plot development and other information relevant to the story. Some of the material will just be background stuff, to let people see what's happened in the past, and other stuff will develop as the story is written. I think I'll also keep a page with the updated story in it's entirety so people don't have to search through the whole blog to catch up. We'll see what else becomes necessary as this blog continues.

I plan on getting everything prepped by this weekend and jump into the actual story next week. So that pretty much wraps it up for what my plans are for this thing. I'd like to know what you think of it and if you'll help me out. Let's write a story!
